Amazon India Launches Two New Fulfilment Centres in Uttar Pradesh; to create thousands of work opportunities for local youth

Expands its fulfillment network to support over 90,000 sellers in the state

Lucknow, 19 September 2021: Amazon India, today, announced the expansion of its fulfilment network in Uttar Pradesh, with the launch of two new Fulfilment Centres (FC) in Lucknow. These newly launched facilities comprise of a new FC and a specialized FC for large appliances and furniture in the State’s capital city. With this expansion, Uttar Pradesh will now be home to three Amazon Fulfilment Centres (FC) with a storage capacity of more than 3 million cubic feet, 9 times increase from the previous year. This expansion will create thousands of work opportunities for locals in the State and support over 90,000 sellers in catering to the growing customer demand, ahead of the festive season.   

The continued investment in the State will have a multiplier effect on the local economy and lead to creation of new direct and indirect work opportunities. Individuals from all backgrounds, especially for locals in the nearby regions. These will entail a variety of roles in its operations network, including full time and part time opportunities, with opportunities available to them for training and upskilling.

Buildings across Amazon India’s fulfillment network are designed with state-of-the art technology, efficient building systems to minimize energy usage and on-site and off-site solar panels to produce solar power. Most buildings are designed to be net water zero with multiple initiatives such as rainwater collection tanks, recharge wells to replenish water into aquifers, sewage treatment plants etc. As an inclusive place to work, Fulfilment Centres are also being designed to make them accessible to people with disabilities.

The expansion in Uttar Pradesh is a part of Amazon’s plans to increase its pan-India fulfilment storage capacity by close to 40% to provide a total storage capacity of 43 million cubic feet, in 2021. Amazon India’s Operations presence in Uttar Pradesh includes:

  • 3 Fulfilment Centres with more than 3 million cubic feet of storage capacity.
  • 2 Sort Centres in the State with close to 1 lakh sq. ft. of sortation area.
  • Close to 160 owned and Delivery Service Partner stations in Uttar Pradesh
  • Close to 2500 of ‘I Have Space’ (IHS) stores in Uttar Pradesh
  • More than 90,000 sellers in Uttar Pradesh.
  • Top categories include large appliances, consumer electronics, fashion, smartphones, and grocery.
